A Visionary Approach to Technology

Jon Heindel is a Southern California-based technology strategist and implementer, but is most known for being the CEO/CIO/CTO of Heindel, Inc and Dirbos, Inc. Heindel has over two decades of incredible experience in the technology industry, and his resume is extensive, to say the least. He’s worked with brands such as Dakine, Huf Worldwide, Lib Tech, Billabong, Gotcha Sportswear, and Z. Cavaricci. When asked why he chose to work in technology, Heindel remarks about the endless opportunities to learn new things from the challenges he faces in this industry.

Meet Jon Heindel

Jon Heindel was first involved in the music industry and quickly fell into the tech scene after. When Jon was a kid, his mother taught him how to play the piano, but he eventually gave up when he learned that it wasn’t for him. He eventually picked up a guitar when he was nine years old, and he knew that it was the right fit for him. Despite his natural talent, Jon pushed himself to improve and become a better musician. He had always wanted to be a rock star, and he was determined to make that happen.

He wished to become a rockstar after acknowledging his talent with the instrument and even went so far as to join a pop-pun band in the early ‘90s. With his band, Jon Heindel played concerts at different venues all along the Sunset Strip of Los Angeles. However, when he grew older, he realized the immeasurable impact that technology was having on the music industry as a whole.

With his interest in technology piqued, Jon Heindel began to seek out ways to teach himself about the technology industry. Having realized that it was incredibly difficult to make a living from playing music, he started to apply for jobs in technology. In 1992, Jon worked as the IT Director for Z. Cavaricci, an Italian-inspired lifestyle wear collection that is most well known for the iconic Z. Cavaricci Cateye pant. In 1998, Heindel began broadening his horizons and accepted a position as a Director, VP, and CIO with Billabong and their brand acquisitions. He held this position for sixteen years until 2014, when he decided to start his own company, Heindel, Inc.

When looking at people with the most experience, Jon Heindel is definitely someone who comes to mind. With his extensive experience in helping companies through major transitions of growth, change, and acquisitions, his knowledge of various industries and different sub-sections of technology has given him a unique perspective of the technology industry, one that not many others have. Instead of looking for what can be done in the industry, Jon Heindel keeps his main focus on what should and could be done, and then uses the knowledge that he possesses to ensure that it happens.

Using his incredible wealth of knowledge and his could and should philosophy for his clients’ visions, Jon Heindel created his second company, Dirbos, Inc in 2018. Dirbos, Inc’s mission is to bring its many clients’ ideas to life through the technological industry, ensuring that their companies can keep up with the numerous changes and shifts that continuously happen within the industry. Heindel also knows when to ask for help; he not only uses his experts that are in-house, but he also uses his vast network of connections to help create a number of solutions to a business’ myriad technological problems.

Even though Jon left his dream of becoming a rockstar in the 90s, the things that he learned from his time as a musician have left him with an incredibly unique way to solve problems in his current job. When looking at a tech problem, Heindel is most reminded of his extensive songwriting process. When writing a song, the words are important, yes, but they’re not the main focus of the song; the melody and the beat, the skeleton of the song was the most important part. He can easily apply what he’s learned from his songwriting process about patience, the ability to see a larger picture, and working backward to fill in the finer details to his career in technology, always giving him the ability to get the job done.

Outside of working, Jon still makes time to play music. He often finds time to spend with his three beautiful daughters, who range in age from seven to eighteen. He says that they represent two different kinds of TikTok-age spectrums. He often spends time with his daughters as they participate in various competitive cheer events. The bond between them and their father is the most important thing in his life.
